Monday Ride: Block Island Tour. - Reggie B.'s 45.7 mi bike ride
Monday Ride: Block Island Tour.
Kimberly hosted a ride on behalf of the LBS. It began with an unseasonably warm day with lots of sunshine. We started our trip with 11 riders, including ILRCVIP member Paul Stonefield, as well as Andrew Brian Aspinwall and Bradford Lake and planned to meet the12th at the ferry (and we did). We rode from the rail station in Kingston, RI to the Port Judith ferry station (but we lost our sweeper/mechanic to a flat and another rider who waited with him and they didn't make it to the ferry in time... there was a wrong turn involved), so for the rest of the day, I was the substitute sweeper.
We went over to the island and did a tour of, pretty much, the whole island. We regrouped at the ferry about 20 minutes before the return launch. While we waited, alcohol came into the mix (somehow...), and by the time we got back to Port Judith..., I might have been... tipsy. And while we were waiting for everybody to come together for farewells and to coordinate the remaining group, I lost my balance and fell over on my unclipped side, (and couldn't get my foot loose in time). It was funny... so I laughed. And laughed. After we made it back to the vehicles, we ate and drank at Mews in Kingston. And we talked and laughed and had a tremendous time.
Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that I met Cory, (another ILRCVIP member), for the first time on the bike path back to Kingston. He said he recognized me because of my kit. We chatted for a couple of minutes and then I needed to catch up with the rest of my group. But meeting him so randomly like that just added to the day's over-the-top awesomeness.
What amazing fun, we had.
